However, JAB (Joint Admission Board) has now revised this policy, reducing the number of attempts eligibility criteria allowed to two.

Criterion A1 – JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025 (Performance in JEE (Main) 2025)
Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories like UR, EWS, OBC, SC, and ST) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2025.
The percentage of different categories of candidates to be shortlisted is as follows: 10% for General-EWS Category Candidates, 27% for OBC-NCL Category Candidates, 15% for SC Category Candidates, 7.5% for ST Category Candidates and the remaining 40.5% is open to all. Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation in JEE Advanced 2025 is available for Divyang candidates.

Criterion A2 – JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025 Age Limit
Candidates of JEE Advanced 2025 should be born on or after 1 October 2000. SC, ST, and Divyang Category candidates are given the five-year relaxation in age limit, i.e. these category candidates should be born on or after 1 October 1995.
Criterion A3 – JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025 Number of attempts
JAB has amended the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 and reduced the number of attempts to two. In the previous notification, JAB had increased the number of attempts to three for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam. But, now the policy of the Number of Attempts has been changed.
A candidate can appear for the JEE (Advanced) entrance exam a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Criterion A4 – Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination
The candidate must have appeared in the class 12th (or equivalent) annual board examination for the first time in the year 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
Candidates who appeared in the Class 12 (or equivalent) final board examination for the first time in 2023 or before are not eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) Entrance Examination 2025, irrespective of the combination or number of subjects attempted/offered.
Appearing in the Class 12th (or equivalent) board examination means that the concerned board has declared the result for that year, irrespective of whether the examination was held or not. This will be considered as appearing, even if the result of a particular candidate has been withheld.
But, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) announced the results for the academic year 2022-23 on or after June 28, 2023, the candidates of that Board who took their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2023 will also be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, provided they satisfy all other eligibility conditions. If your examination Board of Class XII (or Equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 on or before June 28, 2023, and your result was withheld for any reason, you will be not eligible for (JEE (Advanced) 2025.
